"EQUIPPED" Mission & Goals
The mission of EQUIPPED is to provide ancillary wraparound services to children/youth and their families to heighten success and well-being. EQUIPPED will complement the service and education objectives of local school districts by providing academic enrichment programs and activities to enhance education, career, and personal development of children and youth in urban communities.
EQUIPPED will advocate for justice in social structures, and enthuse the entire community of other people and organizations with similar dedications to do likewise. Currently, EQUIPPED is collaborating with The Healing Harvest, SWAP (Sisters Who Are Powerful), Seeds2Feed, and other community organizations to advance equity and equality.

Founder of "EQUIPPED"
Fleda S. Fleming, Ed.D. is an educational leader with more than 20 years of teaching and administrative experience in the public and charter school sectors. An inspirational educator and former high school administrator, she is committed to providing educational and personal development programs and activities to enhance academic achievement, prepare students for higher education, and provide scholarships for college-bound graduates.
Dr. Fleming served as the Director of Academy Programs and Director of Student Services in an urban public high school. In these capacities she spearheaded the implementation of an innovative initiative that provided urban high school students an opportunity to earn an Associate's Degree while attaining their high school diploma. Additionally, she was responsible for establishing a partnership with a local university that made available 1.2 million dollars in scholarships for students from her district.
As founder of EQUIPPED, Dr. Fleming is once again forging efforts to cultivate the minds of youth. Her inherent drive and vision keep her unrelentingly striving forward to help youth, particularly youth in crisis. Her motto is adopted from a saying penned by her mother, Dr. Emmalee Shaw, "A mind is a wonderful thing to cultivate!"
EQUIPPED is committed to helping 8th through 12th grade students who live in Western Wayne County and are interested in attending seminars to enhance SAT test-taking skills, Math, Science, and English/Language Arts skill development, performing and visual arts, as well as financial literacy, civic responsibility, college readiness, and career exploration.
